Walk down any skincare aisle and two ingredients dominate the labels: niacinamide and vitamin C. They are the most recommended “brightening” actives in the world, they show up in serums that cost five dollars and serums that cost two hundred, and they are constantly pitted against each other as if you must pick a side. The framing is misleading. Niacinamide and vitamin C are not rivals running the same race—they are specialists trained for different events, and understanding what each one is actually good at makes the choice far simpler.
